1st Chinese Film Director Award kicks off

BEIJING, Jan. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- More than 200 filmmakers from Taiwan, Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland gathered in Beijing on Saturday night to open the first Chinese Film Directors Association Awards.

The Association's Chairman Haung Jianxin, vice-chairman and renowned filmmaker Feng Xiaogang, and secretary He Ping, attended the big scale awards ceremony, which included the six categories of Best Director, Best Youth Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Life Achievement and Box Office Director Awards.

Feng Xiaogang, the director of the recently-released "A World without Thieves" and Lu Chuan, who made this year's Golden Horse-winning movie "Ke Ke Xi Li" were on the nominee list, with renowned and popular stars like Li Bingbing, Zhang Guoli, Xu Fan and Xu Jinglei also making an appearance at the awards.

The results of the competition, which mainly focused on Chinese films in 2004, will be announced on January 11th.
