Actor Xu Jinglei, known for her beauty, has added directing to her credits. Following the box office success of her debut film "Dad and Me", Jinglei has finished directing her second film "A letter from an unknown woman", in which she also stars. The film has just been approved by the State Administration of Broadcast, Film and Television and plans to head to Spain to compete in the 52th San Sebastian International Film Festival.

Despite appearing a little tired, Jinglei expresses her excitement to be invited by the San Sebastian International Film Festival.

Xu Jinglei said: "I am excited. Not only because the film " letter from an unknown woman" has made it into the circle of best movies, but that I am selected to compete for best rookie director. I consider it a confirmation of my work. During the winter, we worked non-stop outside all the way until summer where I have stayed in the editing room for months. To be invited to this international festival confirms my hard work."

Xu Jinglei says she feels more pressure with her second film compared to her debut film "Dad and Me", which she funded herself. Now she is responsible for 20 million yuan of someone else's money.

"Letter from an unknown woman" is adapted from Austrian writer Stefan Zweig's novel, set in 1930's Beijing. Xu Jinglei co-stars with Jiang Wen to tell a heart wrenching story. The cast will leave for Spain in September for the world premiere and is expected to release in China in February 2005.
