A father's love is a priceless treasure
电影《我和爸爸》纪录平凡生活中质朴的亲情故事。

AS you get older, you spend less time with your father. It may be lots of homework or a friend in need — there is always something pushing your dad down the list.

"My father and I", the new film directed, written by and starring Xu Jinglei, could change all that. Released on December 4, it is the heart-warming story of a girl who first meets her father at the age of 18 following the death of her mother.

The girl, Xiao Yu, knows very little about her father, Lao Yu, and finds it hard to open up to him. He, though, is only too happy to show how much he loves her.

Just as they are developing into a loving family, their lives are torn apart. Always a trouble-maker, Lao Yu is sent to prison and the next few years are full of happy reunions and painful separations. But having found love so late, Xiao Yu seems destined (注定) to lose it.

The film leaves the audience with troubled feelings. The father figure is not perfect: he often gets drunk and gambles (赌博) away his money. Yet his love for his daughter turns him into an accepted parent.

"The film shows life in an honest way," said Senior 2 student Li Qian. "It's as if this story could happen to anyone. Like Xiao Yu, I find that my father's love is a silent blessing (祝福). He is always there for me."
